Renee Babkiewich

Renee Babkiewich has been a part of the Colorado mortgage industry for 30 plus years and is licensed to do mortgage loans in both Colorado as well as California. From 1992 until 2010, Renee was the sole proprietor of MRB Loan Brokers, a successful mortgage loan brokerage, specializing in conventional conforming and non-conforming loan products. Renee is currently working for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation as a Loan Planner working with conventional conforming and non-conforming loan products, FHA and bond loan programs, and is also working with the HECM (Home Equity Conversion Mortgage or what is commonly known as the Reverse Mortgage) loan products. Renee is appointed by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to serve on the Title Insurance Committee for a four year term that will expire in August 2019.

Bart Bartholomew

Bart Bartholomew was raised in Colorado. After serving in the United States Army he attended Metropolitan State College.


Mr. Bartholomew has been a mortgage loan originator since 1996. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association and as President of the Colorado Association of Mortgage Brokers.  He has also served on the Delegate Council of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers; he has chaired the Denver-Boulder Better Business Bureau Truth in Advertising Advisory Board and was a member of the Division of Real Estate Mortgage Broker Rule Making Task Force. He represented Colorado in the development of the NMLS examination.   He has been appointed by the Governor of Colorado and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mortgage Loan Originators of the Division of Real Estate overseeing the Mortgage Loan Originators of Colorado.


Through out the years he has tried to help develop and put forth the highest standards of excellence in the mortgage industry through education of loan originators for the protection and confidence of the citizens of Colorado.   

Cheryl Braunschweiger

Cheryl has been in the mortgage lending business for 22 years. She owned her own business for 17 years as a mortgage broker before joining Nova Home Loans in 2012. She is currently serving as VP Branch Manager in the Westminster office. Cheryl is an active producing Loan Officer and supports a team of 27. Cheryl is a popular instructor for DORA approved classes for agent continuing education classes. She instructs 3-5 classes per month on a variety of topics. She has lived in CO over 35 years – loves the outdoors - spends her free time hiking, skiing and golfing and quality time with her family. Having been a successful business owner and currently active as a community leader, Cheryl Braunschweiger is known and respected for getting the job done with a degree of skill and enthusiasm that brings out the best in those around her - colleagues, clients and friends.

Instructor Don

Don Exley

Don Exley is the founder of Mortgage Training Institute.  He has been in the real estate sales and mortgage finance industries for over twenty five years. Beginning his career as a real estate agent in the late seventies, he progressed to owning and operating several Century 21 franchises in the early 1980's.

Don became involved in the mortgage industry in 1983.  As a residential loan officer he originated and closed over 14 million dollars in loan volume in his first 6 months in the mortgage industry. He has owned and operated several independent mortgage companies, as well as assisted numerous other companies, across the western Untied States, develop their operations and loan production. As a recognized leader in the industry, he is a sought after speaker and lecturer.  Many national companies and associations have had Don train their employees and members in the complexities of the mortgage industry.

MTI has become one of the leading education providers in the mortgage industry.  The company has also been an innovator in education technologies and Don has led the way in the development and implementation of these technologies.

Olivia Morales

Olivia is originally from Indiana, and has a degree in journalism from Indiana University.  While at IU, she wrote news, business and feature articles for the award-winning student newspaper before graduating and moving on to become an editor and student advisor for The Washington Internship Program.  She moved to China in 2010 and taught English at Jing Zhou University for two years, before returning to the US and relocating to Colorado.  After two years with State Farm Insurance, she joined the Mortgage Training Institute as a content development specialist.  She enjoys researching and writing course material to give students a better grasp of the mortgage industry after they've taken an MTI class.

Bruce Simmons

Bruce Simmons began his career in 1987 with Beneficial Finance in Colorado Springs.  Ten years later he managed an office in Westminster for Aabco Mortgage which was headquartered in Tampa, Florida.  When they closed shop in 1999, Bruce ran his own mortgage company for four years before going to work for a large bank as an originator.  In 2011, be began working for American Liberty Mortgage in Denver as the reverse mortgage manager.  He has been a DORA approved instructor teaching the reverse mortgage purchase program to real estate agents since 2009.

Bruce is an avid gardener and loves the outdoors.  He also loves adventures like skydiving and zip lining as well as mud runs in the mountains.  He is active in civic clubs and has served as president in his Kiwanis and Toastmasters Clubs.
